Accessibility Statement
Last Updated: October 20, 2026
We want everyone to be able to use our calculators, including people who use a keyboard instead of a mouse, screen readers, zoom, or high-contrast settings. This applies to wearecalculator.com and to the calculators businesses embed on their own websites through We Are Calculator for Business.
1. Our Standard
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, the standard most commonly used for websites in the United States and Canada.
2. What We've Tested
On October 20, 2026 we tested the embeddable calculator widget across six calculators (mortgage, retirement, life insurance, debt payoff, emergency fund, and auto loan):
- Automated scan with axe-core against WCAG 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2 A and AA rules: no remaining issues after fixes.
- Keyboard only: every input, option, button, and link can be reached with Tab in a logical order, works with the keyboard, and shows a visible focus outline.
- Labels and announcements: every field and button has a text label, option buttons say which one is selected, results are announced politely when they change, and form errors are announced.
- Structure: headings follow a logical order, and data tables have header cells.
- Zoom and small screens: the calculator reflows to a 320-pixel-wide screen (equivalent to 400% zoom) without sideways scrolling.
- Color contrast: text meets WCAG AA contrast ratios in the default style.
Fixes made from this testing: stronger contrast on unit labels, selected-state announcements on option buttons, corrected heading levels, a text description for charts, and announced form errors.
3. Known Limitations
- Charts are summarized with a short description rather than described point by point. The same figures are listed as text in the results.
- Business branding: businesses choose their own brand colors for embedded calculators. Our dashboard adjusts button text color automatically for readability, but a business's color choices can still affect contrast.
- Our testing so far has been automated and manual keyboard testing by our team. We have not yet had an independent audit or tested with every screen reader and browser combination.
4. Business Customers
If your organization needs accessibility documentation for a procurement review, such as a VPAT, email us and we will work through it with you.
5. Report a Problem
If something on our site or in an embedded calculator is hard to use, email robin@wearecalculator.com with the page or calculator name and what happened. We aim to reply within two business days and will tell you what we plan to fix.
