Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how We Are Calculator ("we", "us") handles information when you use wearecalculator.com. The short version: our calculators run in your browser, the numbers you enter never reach our servers unless you specifically choose to email yourself a result, and we never sell your data. Businesses can also embed our calculators on their own websites and use a We Are Calculator account to receive leads; different rules apply there, and they are explained in sections 6 and 7.

1. Information We Collect

Personal Data: We do NOT collect personal data such as names, addresses, or phone numbers unless you voluntarily provide them — by contacting us via email, or by entering your email address to use the optional "Email me this PDF" feature described below.

Financial Data: All financial data entered into our calculators on wearecalculator.com is processed client-side within your web browser. This data is not transmitted to our servers and is not stored by us — with one exception: if you actively choose to use the "Email me this PDF" feature on a calculator, the results currently shown (not your raw inputs) are sent to our server to generate the PDF and deliver it to the email address you provide. This only happens when you deliberately click that feature; it never happens automatically, and using any calculator without it works exactly as before. Calculators embedded on a business's own website work differently; see section 7.

Usage Data: We use Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity, deployed via Google Tag Manager, to track how our website performs and where we can improve the user experience — pages viewed, approximate location (city level), browser and device type, how you arrived at the site, page-load performance, and aggregated interaction data such as clicks and scroll behavior. We use this solely to make the site faster, fix broken pages, and understand which tools are useful — we do not use it to track your calculator inputs or results. Those never leave your browser (see Financial Data above) and are invisible to Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics by design, not by configuration choice. Microsoft Clarity may capture session recordings and heatmaps; by default it masks the content you type into calculator fields, so your financial inputs are not recorded. This data is used only to improve the site's usability and is not used by us to personally identify you. You can read more in the Microsoft Privacy Statement.

2. Email Communications and PDF Delivery

If you use the "Email me this PDF" feature, your email address and the specific result you requested are used only to generate and send you that one PDF. We store your email address (via Airtable, a database service) so we can tell whether we've emailed you before and so you can unsubscribe; we do not sell, rent, or otherwise share your email address with third parties. Delivery is handled through our email hosting provider (Hostinger) from a dedicated sending address — this is a standard mail-delivery service, not an advertising or data-broker partner.

The same popup includes a separate, unchecked-by-default checkbox to also receive occasional calculator tips and new-tool announcements. Checking it is entirely optional and never required to get your PDF. Every email we send includes a way to unsubscribe, and you can also ask us to remove your email address entirely at any time — see Contact below.

3. Cookies and Advertising

We use cookies for analytics (Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity, both deployed through Google Tag Manager) to measure and improve site performance and user experience — this is separate from, and cannot see, the numbers you enter into a calculator. Where ads are shown, third-party vendors including Google use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet. You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.

4. How We Use Information

Aggregate analytics data is used solely to improve the site: identifying popular tools, finding broken pages, understanding where users get stuck, and prioritizing new calculators. Email addresses collected through the PDF/newsletter feature are used only to deliver what you asked for and, if opted in, occasional site updates. We do not sell, rent, or share any visitor data with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

5. Data Retention

Because calculator inputs never reach us except through the opt-in PDF feature above, there is nothing else for us to retain or delete. Email addresses collected through that feature are retained until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics' standard retention settings.

6. Business Accounts (We Are Calculator for Business)

Businesses can create an account at wearecalculator.com/for-business to embed branded calculators on their own websites and receive leads. This section covers the information we hold about those business accounts.

What we collect from business account holders: your email address and password, business name, business type (optional), the calculators and website domains you register, and the branding and settings you choose, such as your logo, colors, and disclaimer text. If you connect an integration, we also store what is needed to send leads there (for example a webhook address, or the credentials for a HubSpot connection). We record how many leads your account receives each month so we can apply plan limits. Your password is managed by our authentication provider and is not stored in readable form.

How we use it: to run your account, deliver your leads, apply plan limits, keep the service secure, prevent abuse, and contact you about your account or about changes to We Are Calculator for Business. We do not sell business account information.

Deleting your account: you can delete your account at any time from Settings. Doing so permanently deletes your leads, calculators, domains, branding, and integration settings. We keep one limited record of the deleted account (your email address, business name and business type, plan, and how many leads you used that month) so we can enforce plan limits, recognize repeat sign-ups, and occasionally contact you about the service. You can ask us to delete or limit that record by emailing contact@wearecalculator.com; we will do so, except that we may keep the minimum needed to apply plan limits.

Service providers: we use Supabase for our database and account sign-in, and Hostinger for website hosting and email delivery.

7. Embedded Calculators and Visitors' Information

When a calculator is embedded on a business's website, it appears inside a frame served from wearecalculator.com. Unlike the public site, the embedded version is built to pass a visitor's details to that business, but only when the visitor chooses to send them.

  • What is sent, and when: nothing is sent while a visitor simply uses the calculator. Only if the visitor completes and submits the "Send my results" form are their name, email address, optional phone number, the values they entered, the results, the address of the website they were on, and the time sent to our servers.
  • Who receives it: the business that embedded the calculator. We store the submission in that business's dashboard and email it to the business with a PDF copy of the results. If the business has set these up, we also forward it to its own webhook or HubSpot account. We do not email the visitor.
  • Who is responsible for it: the business decides why it collects this information and what it does with it afterwards, and its own privacy policy governs that use. We process the submission on the business's behalf to provide the service. We do not use visitors' submissions for our own marketing, do not sell them, and do not show them to other businesses.
  • No ads or third-party trackers in the embed: the embedded calculator does not load advertising or third-party analytics such as Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics, or Microsoft Clarity.
  • Retention and deletion: submissions are kept while the business's account is active and are permanently deleted when that account is deleted. To ask for your information to be corrected or deleted, contact the business first. You can also email contact@wearecalculator.com and we will help get your request to them.

8. Children's Privacy

Our site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last Updated" date above.
