Affiliate Disclosure

This page explains every way We Are Calculator earns money, what an affiliate link is, and — most importantly — the firm line between how we are paid and what our calculators tell you. It supplements our Editorial & Verification Policy and our Privacy Policy.

We publish this in accordance with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission's Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising (16 CFR Part 255), the UK CAP Code as enforced by the ASA, and Canada's Competition Act. Where those standards differ, we follow the strictest.

1. Current Status

We Are Calculator earns revenue from two sources: display advertising (see Section 7) and a small, selective number of affiliate partnerships with financial products relevant to the calculator they appear alongside. When you click certain links on this site and take an action — such as opening an account or submitting an application — we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. Affiliate links appear on a limited number of pages, are chosen for direct relevance to the calculation on that page, and are disclosed in plain language at the point of the link, per Section 4 below. This is a general, standing disclosure covering any current or future affiliate relationship on the site — we do not name individual partners here, and this statement does not need updating each time a new partnership is added or ended, provided the relationship meets the standards set out in Section 5.

2. What an Affiliate Link Is

An affiliate link is a link to a third-party product or service — a bank, brokerage, lender, insurer, or comparison service — that carries a tracking code identifying us as the referrer. If you click it and later open an account, apply, or subscribe, that third party may pay us a commission or a fixed referral fee.

We are paid by the company being linked to. We are never paid by you.

3. What This Means for You

  • No extra cost. Using an affiliate link never changes the price you pay, the rate you are offered, or the terms you receive. The commission comes out of the provider's marketing budget.
  • No influence on the maths. No affiliate relationship affects a formula, a default assumption, a reference rate, or a calculation result. The number a calculator gives you is the number the source formula produces, and it would be identical if we earned nothing.
  • No influence on what we build. Commission rates play no part in deciding which calculators or guides get built, or which appear first in a category.
  • Not a recommendation. An offer appearing next to a calculator does not mean it is right for your situation, or that it is the best available. Compare alternatives and consult a licensed professional before acting.
  • Free either way. Every calculator on this site is free, requires no sign-up, and runs in your browser. That does not change whether you use an affiliate link or not.

4. How Affiliate Links Are Identified

Where affiliate links appear, they are disclosed in plain language at the point of the link or in a visible notice on the same page — not buried in a footer and not left to be inferred. Disclosure appears before or alongside the link, so you know the relationship exists before you click rather than after.

5. How We Choose Partners

Where we show an offer, it must meet all of the following:

  • The provider is an established, appropriately regulated financial institution or service.
  • The offer is genuinely relevant to the calculation on the page it appears on.
  • The commercial terms do not require us to alter, rank, or soften anything editorial.

We research every partner individually before applying, and we reject the large majority of affiliate offers we're approached with — either because they aren't directly relevant to a reader's decision on the page in question, or because the terms would require compromising the calculator's independence. We decline partnerships that ask us to change a calculator result, adjust a default assumption, rank products by payout, suppress a drawback, present a guaranteed rating, or represent an offer as advice. We also decline categories we consider predatory regardless of payout, including payday and high-cost short-term lending, credit-repair schemes, and speculative products marketed on unrealistic return claims.

6. Separation From the Calculators

The calculators are the product; monetization sits beside them, never inside them. Calculator logic contains no partner-dependent branching. No partner has access to our formulas, our reference data, or our roadmap, and no partner reviews our content before publication. If an affiliate relationship ever conflicted with a correct result, the result wins and the relationship ends. This is the same commitment set out in section 5 of our Editorial & Verification Policy.

7. Advertising

Separately from affiliate links, this site displays third-party advertising through Google AdSense. Ad slots are labeled, and the specific ads shown are selected by the ad network based on its own targeting — not chosen, endorsed, or reviewed by us. An ad appearing on this site is not a recommendation. Embedded versions of our calculators used on other sites carry no advertising at all.

8. What Happens When You Click

Our calculations run entirely in your browser and we never send the figures you enter to a server. Clicking an affiliate link or an ad, however, takes you to a third party, and from that point their own tracking, cookies, and privacy policy apply — not ours. 9. Not Financial Advice

We build calculators and explain the maths behind them. Nothing here — including any affiliate offer — is personalized financial, investment, tax, insurance, or legal advice. See our full Disclaimer.

10. Changes to This Policy

This is a general, standing disclosure and does not require an update for routine additions or removals of individual partners within the standards set out in Section 5. We will update this page and refresh the "Last Updated" date above if our monetization approach changes materially — for example, a new revenue model beyond advertising and affiliate links, or a change to the standards in Section 5.
