A household with $100 million in net worth sits around the 100th percentile of all US households. In round numbers, about 135 million households have less than that and about 63,000 have more. For comparison, the median household has $215,900, and the top 10% starts at $2,550,000.

Numbers this high are where the survey gets less reliable. The Survey of Consumer Finances leaves out the Forbes 400 on purpose and has very few households to measure at the top, so treat the percentile for $100 million as an approximate floor rather than an exact rank.

At this level your rank says less about how secure you are than what you own and what it earns. Households this wealthy tend to hold more of their money in businesses and financial assets and less in their home, which is the opposite of the typical household, where the house is most of the balance sheet.

$100 million is about 463 times the median US household's net worth and about 39 times the level where the top 10% begins. Spent at a 4% withdrawal rate, it supports roughly $4,000,000 a year (about $333,333 a month) before tax, if all of it is invested. By age group, it still reaches the top 10% for households up to the 80+ age group, and the top 1% for households up to the 80+ group.

Data & method

Percentiles are estimated from the Federal Reserve Survey of Consumer Finances, 2025 wave (released October 2026), the most recent published wave, by interpolating in log space between the published 25th, 50th, 75th, 90th, 95th and 99th percentile breakpoints for each age band. Figures are 2025 survey dollars, as the Federal Reserve publishes them. Median US household net worth in that survey was $215,900 with a mean of $1,241,500. The SCF excludes the Forbes 400 and has limited sample size above the 95th percentile, so upper-percentile estimates should be treated as approximate floors. The next wave is expected in 2029.
